It's hard to imagine a personal computer industry without Steve Wozniak as its first true game-changing inventor. As original co-founder with Steve Jobs of Apple, Wozniak single-handledly invented the Apple I and Apple II. Those clean, elegant and ingenious designs inspired generations of engineers to come. (If you've one, leave a message for him below. I know he'd love to hear from you).

Deliverng a keynote address at 1105 Media's FOSE conference, Wozniak -- now chief scientist at Fusion IO -- told several stories of the early days of Apple, including a lesson that he and Steve Jobs learned early on. "If the technology is the master of the human, then the human has to change his ways" to use it, he said. "That's a bad way to go. You should always make the human more important."

Wozniak ends his speech saying, "We have a lot of great problems in the world. Problems with resources, problems with humanity, problems with wars, and the solutions in my mind are all with engineers, mathematics, with figuring how to build things, create things, and change this world and improve it. That's your job. Thank you very much"

Steve Wozniak will always be known as one of the Steves who founded Apple (AAPL). And there is no question he was a key force in shaping the company that played a major role in shaping the personal computer revolution and Silicon Valley itself. But he is a Renaissance geek, a guy who's sponsored rock festivals, taught fifth-graders and supported the Silicon Valley ballet, the Children's Discovery Museum and any number of valley causes. Though Silicon Valley is still home, Wozniak is currently the chief scientist for Fusion-io, a Salt Lake City-based storage company that went public last week.

First and foremost, while attending the Design Automation Conference (DAC) last week, I was fortunate enough to meet " The Woz," Steve Wozniak - co-founder of Apple Computer. Actually, when I come to think about it, I've been really lucky over the years, because I've had the opportunity to meet quite a few folks who dramatically affected the world in which we now live.

I could care less about hearing what a politician has to say. Hollywood bores me to tears. And I have no desire to meet whoever the latest rock star is (especially if the Bieber craze is still going on). Instead, my meaning of rock star is more in line with the old Intel campaign and Woz is, in my opinion, the Jim Morrison/Jimi Hendrix/Joan Jett/whoever-you-like rock star of the tech world
